We may all come to a point in our lives where coping with daily stresses  is causing trouble at  work, in relationships, with sleep or health.  Sometimes finding a safe place to reduce stress and frustration, talking to someone who is trained to listen, can make a difference. Therapy  can not only move you past what may seem impossible roadblocks but can give you a change in your outlook  that is nearly magical!

People have many questions regarding therapy. Not knowing what to expect can make it difficult to schedule a first appointment. Below are some commonly asked questions. If you have any other general questions, please email me!

1.  Should I see a therapist?

The decision to see a therapist is a very personal one.  People choose therapy during times of stress and emotional pain and at other times it may also be that you are seeking  to grow and mature.

2. How do I know you are the right therapist for me?

Not every therapist is right for every person! A good “fit” is important for the therapeutic relationship. It is critical that the therapist is someone you feel comfortable to open up to, communicate with and disclose sensitive information.  Please feel free to call my office to set up a 10 minute phone call to determine your interest  in working with me.

3. How long do sessions last?

Sessions last between 45-50 minutes.

4. How long will I be in therapy?

There is no minimum or maximum number of visits.  Many factors are taken into consideration including your goals, progress and clinical course.

5. What can I expect in the first session?

Generally, in the first session I will ask you some questions to help me understand why you are seeking therapy.   I try to gather information about your personal history, current situation and symptoms.

6.  What if I need medication?

If medication is needed, I work with a psychiatrist who will prescribe and  closely  monitor the medication.

7. What if I am having issues with my relationship and my partner is unwilling to seek therapy?

Ideally, it is best to work with both people when the issue involves a relationship.   However, it still is possible to make changes and improve your relationship through individual treatment and learning to maximize personal responsibility.

8. What is your cancellation policy?

Generally, I require 24 hour cancellation.

.

9. What is your philosophy in therapy?

I try to provide  feedback and compassionate support to help patients achieve their full potential.  I use a variety of approaches and techniques that are tailored to the uniqueness of each individual emphasizing enhanced self awareness, assumption of personal responsibility and developing clear and effective communication skills.

10.  What are some of the issues you deal with in your practice?

In my practice, I see individuals, couples and families who  are dealing with a wide range clinical  challenges  involving stress, mood disturbances and communication issues.

By just taking that first step of seeking help , you are on

the road towards creating a better life!
